Concord, NC HEALTH TIP OF THE MONTH:
EXERCISE AFTER BACK SURGERY: Straight Leg Raise

The straight leg raise is a versatile movement. It’s used as a test by healthcare providers like your Concord, NC chiropractor when figuring out the source of back pain and disc involvement. A recent study stated that the inability to do a straight leg after back surgery increased the risk of undergoing another surgery. (4) Luckily, it is a pretty easy exercise. How do you do the it? Lie on a supportive surface. Bend one leg’s knee and place its foot on the floor. With the other leg flat and hips planted on the floor, lift the straight leg off the floor. Hold for 3 seconds and lower it. Do that movement 10 times. Then, replicate this with the other leg. If that is difficult, there are some adaptations. (5) Let's discuss what is right for you before you do these on your own!
